We previously informed you on October 13, 2025 that the Ghanaian Customs authorities no longer accept generic goods descriptions in the Bill of Lading, such as „spare parts“, „spare parts for mining“ or „medical equipment“ etc. Each item must be described in detail on the Bill of Lading to reflect the true nature of the cargo. Any inaccurate or misleading cargo descriptions may result in additional costs, including manifest amendments, inspections or customs penalties.
Still required is the additional HS Code (6 digits minimum) as well as full style contact details & Tax ID of the consignee.
As reviews by Ghanaian Customs have continued to become stricter in recent months, we would like to reiterate the importance of strict compliance with these requirements.
