Export LCL Kenya - New mandatory requirement on imports – Certificate of Origin (COO)

Dear Customer,

please be informed that the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has announced the introduction of a new mandatory requirement on imports into the country that must be met by all importers. Effectively July 1st, it is mandatory for all consignments imported into Kenya to be accompanied by a Certificate of Origin (COO).
To ease the transition KRA has provided a grace period ending on September 30, 2025. If the importer fails to fulfill conditions penalties may be imposed such as cargo be sold by auction or destructed at importers expense.

In this context we would like to remind you that for imports into Kenya and Uganda, there is also a Certificate of Conformity (CoC) needed.
The Pre-Export Verification of Conformity Programm was introduced by KEBS (Kenya Bureau of Standards) in 2005 and applies to products at the respective exporting countries to ensure their compliance with the applicable Kenyan Technical Regulation and Mandatory Standards or approved specifications.
