Export / Import LCL - Potential Strike US Eastcoast and US-Gulf
Dear Valued Customers,
the International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA), representing dock workers on the US East and Gulf Coasts, may begin a labor strike on January 15th, 2025, if the parties fail to reach an agreement on outstanding contract matters before the contract extension expires. A strike could cause major delays and backlogs for container shipments at these ports.
LCL Exports: In the event of a labor action, an Emergency Congestion Surcharge of USD 40 w/m, with a minimum of USD 40, will be applied to all LCL shipments arriving from Germany to the US East and Gulf Coast available on or after January 15, 2025. This surcharge will be collected at destination.
LCL Imports: In the event of a labor action, an Emergency Congestion Surcharge of USD 40 w/m, with a minimum of USD 40, will be applied to all LCL shipments departing from US East and Gulf Coast ports starting January 15, 2025.
These surcharges will remain in effect until the situation stabilizes. Please be aware that due to the uncertainty of the situation, the amount and the date of application can be reviewed at any time.
We appreciate your understanding. Should you have any questions, please contact your local SACO representative.
